Epidemiology Doctoral Student Received NIAAA Travel Award

Jennifer Reingle, a doctoral student in the Epidemiology program, received a travel award from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism to attend the National Hispanic Science Network (NHSN) conference in Miami, Florida October 29-31 where she will be presenting a paper entitled, "What Are Hispanic Adolescents Drinking? An Analysis of Alcoholic Beverage and Brand Preference".

Dr. Jill Boylston Herndon will present a paper coauthored with Drs. Bruce Vogel and Betsy Shenkman titled "SCHIP Buy-In Programs: How Do Case Mix & Utilization Compare Between Full-Pay & Subsidized Enrollees?" at the AcademyHealth 2009 Annual Research Meeting in Chicago, June 28-30.

Dr. Caprice Knapp and colleagues oral presentation accepted to 2009 AcademyHealth Annual Research Meeting

On behalf of an ICHP research team focused on children with special health care needs (CSHCN), Ms. Vanessa Madden will present the results from a recent study entitled, "Effects of an Integrated Care System on CSHCN" at the 2009 ARM meeting in Chicago, June 28-30. The paper was chosen from a competitive field, with over 1,900 abstracts submitted for consideration. The ICHP research team includes Drs. Caprice Knapp, Betsy Shenkman, Phyllis Sloyer as well as Ms. Vanessa Madden and Ms. Hua Wang.

Alex Wagenaar, Ph.D. will receive the Prevention Science Award

Alex Wagenaar, Ph.D., Professor, Department of Epidemiology and Health Policy Research in the College of Medicine will receive the Prevention Science Award by the Society for Prevention Research. This prestigious award is being given in recognition of Dr. Wagenaar’s outstanding accomplishments in prevention research and which will be presented at a ceremony during the annual meeting at the end of May.

Dr. Mildred M. Maldonado-Molina to attend ISSH

Dr. Mildred M. Maldonado-Molina was selected to attend the Institute on Systems Science and Health (ISSH), System Dynamics Modeling track. The Institute is sponsored by the University of Michigan Center for Social Epidemiology and Population Health, NACDD, NIH Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research and the CDC Syndemics Prevention Network. The purpose of this Institute is to provide investigators with a thorough introduction to selected systems science methodologies that may be used to study behavioral and social dimensions of public health. The Institute will take place at the University of Michigan, School of Public Health in Ann Arbor (May 3-8) and all expenses are covered by NIH.
